GREAT THINKERS
THROUGHOUT THE WORLD & AGES
ON VIEW
MAY 22 — OCTOBER 1, 2025
The Great Thinkers series was created to honor and inspire appreciation for our innate capacity to think — a mysterious faculty that arises unbidden from within. These individuals, drawn from different cultures, continents, and eras, each devoted themselves to thought not as a solitary pursuit, but as a means of bettering the lives of others. Guided by insight and compassion, they transformed their ideas into action — shaping human understanding and elevating the collective good. Here in the garden, through the enduring presence and beauty of these bronze portraits, visitors are invited to reflect, to connect, and to draw inspiration from the lives and legacies of these extraordinary minds.
Leonardo da Vinci
The Joy of Learning
This sculpture was created to celebrate the joy of learning and the cultivation of knowledge. Few individuals have embodied this spirit more fully than Leonardo da Vinci, whose boundless curiosity and intellectual passion continue to inspire across centuries. When one is immersed in the pursuit of understanding the world, a deeper knowledge of the self begins to unfold. With this, the ability to move through life with greater richness, appreciation, and harmony naturally follows. Each person carries within them a unique path toward knowledge, and this work serves as a tribute — and an invitation — to those who seek to engage with that journey.

Confucius
The Cultivation of Virtue
This sculpture portrays Confucius — teacher of teachers, leader of leaders — at a formative moment in his life, when inspired thought was beginning to take shape as transformative action. One of the most influential thinkers in human history, Confucius laid the philosophical foundations that have guided Chinese culture for over 2,500 years. He believed in the innate goodness of human beings and taught that this virtue must be nurtured through respectful and ethical living. For Confucius, the cultivation of a harmonious society begins with the individual: by first establishing virtue within oneself, one can influence the family, the city, and ultimately, the nation.

Hypatia of Alexandria
The Cultivation of Wisdom
Hypatia (pronounced hai-PAY-shuh) was one of the most extraordinary women in recorded history. A mathematician, philosopher, astronomer, and inventor, she devoted her life to exploring the mysteries of the cosmos — and through this exploration, cultivated a deep inner clarity and peace. In her time, Hypatia was revered as both a teacher and a luminous presence. Students — men and women alike — traveled from across the known world to study with her, seeking to unlock the mysteries within themselves and live in harmony with what she called “the One.” While not known for introducing original philosophical doctrines, Hypatia attained a profound sense of peace through her mastery and faithful embodiment of the Neoplatonic tradition. She realized that the path to wisdom was not through novelty, but through the full and sincere application of timeless truths. She is depicted here as a figure of both compassion and conviction. Her presence endures as a beacon for those who seek illumination through self-knowledge and the life of the mind.
